BATSCon Code of Conduct

(Inspired by BAQZF Safer Spaces Policy and Play the Bay’s Community Standards)

At BATSCon, we are dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for everyone. Our community thrives on respect, collaboration, and fun.

What We Value

  • Consent in all things. Everyone has the right to say “yes,” “no,” or “not right now.” No one is ever required to participate in something they don’t want to.
  • Communication. Clear, respectful, and open communication makes for better games and a stronger community.
  • Safety tools. We encourage the use of safety tools at all tables. Saying “pause,” “rewind,” or using an X-card or other tool helps ensure everyone is comfortable and supported.
  • People over games. Stories are important, but people are more important. If someone is uncomfortable, the game pauses.

Unacceptable Behavior

The following are not welcome at BATSCon:

  • Harassment of any kind (verbal, physical, or online).
  • Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, or any other discriminatory behavior.
  • Trolling, harmful language, or purposeful disrespect.
  • Unwanted physical contact or sexual harassment.
  • Distribution of materials promoting hate or discrimination.

How to Practice Care in Games

  • Check in with others when your actions might impact them.
  • Use consent-based language: “Would you be okay if…” or “I imagine what happens is…”
  • Support others when safety tools are used. Thank people for speaking up.
  • Be proactive: don’t leave it to marginalized folks to handle harmful language.
  • Ask for help if you’re unsure or need something to enjoy the game.

Accountability

Anyone who violates this Code of Conduct may be asked to leave the event, with future participation reviewed at the discretion of organizers.

Questions or Concerns

If you experience or witness a violation or if you need support, please contact a BATSCon organizer at info@batrpgs.com or speak with staff on-site.
